Our history

The Port Hacking Dragon Boat Club was formed in September 1983 by John Hayes to contest Australia’s first dragon boat race  in 1984.

Initial training was in oyster barges until David Hooker (Founding Chairman-Sydney) delivered Sydney’s first dragon boat to Port Hacking.

The team won the inaugural Australian Dragon Boat Races in Farm Cove on April 8 1984. The same year the club successfully represented Australia in the Singapore and Hong Kong races, and returned to Hong Kong in 1993.

The Port Hacking Club continues to promote the sport and its cultural heritage. We encourage people from all walks of life to try dragon boat paddling and uphold the heritage.

We are currently looking for new Competitive and Social Paddlers to experience paddling with us. All are welcome regardless of your level of experience, it is serious fun, great cross training, and is suitable for people of all ages, race days consist of Womens, Mens and Mixed crews.

Come along and try it, No Obligation and see if you would like to participate on a regular basis.

The Club, now in its twenty fifth year (2008), still trains regularly twice mid week at 6.30pm (during daylight saving) on Saturdays at 7.30am all year round and now on Sunday mornings with the PH Breast Cancer Survivors team (Nov 2007), see our News section for more information. .

We are located at the Scout Hall no.8a Wonga Road, Yowie Bay, approximately 100mt from the boat ramp.
